TPCMA was established on March 15, 1950. The 1st president of the board of directors was doctor Lin Yun-chiao. In March 1952, legislator and doctor Cheng Ping-tsun assumed as the 2nd president with great enthusiasm for social welfare. Besides, he was also the chief commissioner of KMT Taipei City Chapter, with an active role in the circles of the Party, politics and medicine. Later, as he could not continuously take care of the association affairs, he resigned from the post of the president, with executive director doctor Chen Chin Ching-fu taking his place as the 2nd and 3rd president. In March 1957, doctor Lai Shao-huan, president of the board of Taiwan Chinese Medical Association, became the 4th president of TPCMA.
As a delegate of the National Assembly, President Lai Shao-huan worked hard to strive for the right and interest of Chinese medicine, i.e. trying to set up schools of Chinese medicine by appealing to the Legislative Yuan, National Assembly and administrative organs through coordinated efforts with representatives from the circle of Chinese medicine. From 1959-1963,the fifth and the sixth president had been doctor Hsi Fu-yi who had also been the president of Taiwan Chinese Medical Association in the same period. From 1963-1967, the seventh and the eighth president had been Wu Hai-feng who also had been the president of Association of Chinese Medicine (Taiwan). President Wu made active efforts in safeguarding the rights and interest of Chinese medicine. He applied to the department in charge for starting Qualification Examination for taking the Examination of the Doctors of Chinese Medicine, in order to choose talented doctors of Chinese medicine. Doctor Wu, after resigning from the post as president, was engaged by the Department of Health as the first chairman of Chinese Medicine Commission. In 1967, Dr. Hsi Nan-hsun was elected as the ninth president of the board of directors.
In 1967, Taipei City was elevated to the status of special municipality directly administered by the central government. Doctor Hsi Nan-hsun became the first and the second president of the board of directors after reform.
From 1971-1986, doctor Chang Cheng-mao had been the third, the fourth, the sixth and the seventh president after status elevation (the 5th President was doctor Wei Han-liang).
Important work carried out by President Chang during his term included purchasing TPCMA Building located at Shaohsing S. St., organizing delegations to attend international seminar of academic research, establishing sister association with the Association of Korean Medicine in Seoul as well as conducting exchanges with The Association of Oriental Medicine in Japan, medical circles in Hong Kong, Kowloon, USA, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, trying to incorporate the education of Chinese medicine into the University Education Act and Chinese traumatology into labor insurance. Doctor Chang, as president during the period from 1972-1978, assumed as the Chairman of Chinese Medicine Commission under the Department of Health in addition to being the 1st president of the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors Association, R.O.C. in 1989.
In 1986, doctor Huang Ming-te was elected as the 8th president while assuming as the 9th president. President Huang was dedicated to promoting the convocation of the academic seminar on the integration of Chinese medicine with Western medicine, running courses on clinical testing and spurring up the modernization of Chinese medicine. He headed a delegation in attending international academic seminars respectively held in Canada, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China for promoting internationalization of Chinese medicine while trying to incorporate Chinese medicine into labor insurance and developing the medical service of Chinese medicine. In 1990, he was engaged by the Department of Health as the chairman of Chinese Medicine Commission.
In 1992, professor and doctor Lin Chao-keng of China Medical University was elected as the 10th president, with his important work including purchasing a new association hall at Guangzhou St. through mobilizing members to donate money, holding academic seminars on Chinese medicine, trying to fully open the labor insurance of clinics of Chinese medicine, compiling White Paper of Chinese medicine, mapping up plans for the research of Chinese medicine, actively promoting academic study of Chinese medicine. Because of his outstanding contributions in carrying forward traditional Chinese medicine, President Lin was awarded a cultural citation concurrently the head of National Cultural Association granted by former president Li Denghui. In 1998 and 2001, President Lin was elected as the 4th and the 5th President of the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors Association, R.O.C. In 2001 and 2005, he was engaged as the National Policy Advisor to the Office of the President of ROC.
In 1995, doctor Cheng Shui-tsung was elected as the 11th president. As the second and the third president of Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, ROC, president Cheng led TPCMA in applying to the department in charge for taking the outpatient department of Chinese medicine under national health insurance, starting refresher courses on Chinese medicine and modern medicine, initiating Taipei Journal of Chinese Medicine, promoting academic exchanges on Chinese medicine on both sides of Taiwan Straits, preparing the foundation for the rights and interest of Chinese medicine, establishing scholarship for the children of association members, setting up association internet, promoting the establishment of internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics associations of Chinese medicine as well as associations of anti-aging, hepatitis and cancer of Chinese medicine, ROC.
In 1998, doctor Chen Chun-ming, the first president of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, was elected as the 12th president, with his important work including promoting the computerization of clinics of Chinese medicine, reinforcing academic exchanges on both sides of Taiwan Straits, starting courses on further education, compiling the Collection on Clinical Experiences of the Acupuncture Treatment and promoting the system of total payment of the outpatient department of Chinese medicine. President Chen was concurrently the first chief director of the Taipei sub-association of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. In 1998 and 2001, President Lin was elected as the executive director of the 5th Board of Directors and the chairman of the 6th Board of Supervisors.
In 2001, doctor Chen Wang-chuan became the 13th president and that he was the 2nd president of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. Apart from continuing to institute the system of total payment of the outpatient department of Chinese medicine, promoting academic study of Chinese medicine and publishing collections on clinical experiences of internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, he also assumed as the editor-inchief of "Report on Chinese Medicine", the first journal of the national federation, as well as "Chinese Medicine in Taiwan", in addition to having meticulously designed and compiled the first set of "Health-Care Handbook of Chinese Medicine". Besides, he has made active efforts in establishing an award for writing works on Chinese medicine and awarding members for publishing their medical works. President Chen with great enthusiasm for social welfare was engaged by the Taipei City Government as the municipal consultant. In 2004 and 2007, he was elected as the executive director of the 5th and 6th Board of Directors.
In 2004, Doctor Shih Chun-chuan was elected as the 14th president. President Shih used to work as the fourth and fifth secretary-general of the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors Association, R.O.C., member and concurrent director of the Insurance Commission of Insurance Overview Payment System of Global Budget for Chinese Medicine Treatment, for promoting the National Health Insurance Overview Payment System of Global Budget for Chinese Medicine Treatment. Apart from continuing to promote continuation education courses and offer refresher courses on combining Western medicine and Chinese medicine, he also compiled the "Collection on Clinical Treatment Experiences in the Department of Otolaryngology, Chinese Medicine", the "Collection on Clinical Treatment Experiences in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Chinese Medicine", the "Collection on Chinese Medicine Clinical Treatment of Liver Diseases", the "Handbook of Visual Image Interpretation", the "Collection on Clinical Treatment Experiences in the Department of Dermatology, Chinese Medicine", and the "Practice Handbook for Chinese Medicine Doctors" in order to enhance the quality of Chinese medical service.
In 2007, Doctor Chen Chao-tsung was elected as the 15th president. President Chen used to work as the 4th president of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, the executive director of the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors Association, R.O.C., and the editor-in-chief of "Newsletter of Chinese Medicine, Taipei". His important work included purchasing a new association hall at Chingdao W. Rd., promoting international academic exchange, mapping up the Academic Seminar of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Both Sides of Taiwan Straits and the International Congress of Oriental Medicine, signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Association of Korean Oriental Medicine and the California Alliance of Acupuncture Medicine, holding the 1st Leisure Festival for Chinese Medical Doctors in order to enhance the social activities for Chinese medicine doctors.
In 2010, Doctor Chen Chih-fang was elected as the 16th president. President Chen used to work as the third president of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, the first president of Chunghwa Chinese Medicine Association. President Chen is the chief director of the Taipei Sub-association of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association.
In 2013, Doctor Tsao Yun-tson was elected as the 17th president. President Tsao used to work as the 5th president of Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, the first Vice president of Taiwan Andrology Chinese Medicine Association. President Tsao is the vice chief director of the Taipei Sub-association of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association.
In 2016, Doctor Lin Tsan-hon was elected as the 18th president. President Lin used to work as the 4th president of Taiwan Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, the first chief supervisor of Taiwan Andrology Chinese Medicine Association. President Lin is the vice chief director of the Taipei Sub-association of China Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Association.
In 2019, Doctor Huang Chien-jung was elected as the 19th president. President Huang is President of JunLin Dazhi Clinics, the doctor of Executive Yuan Clinics, Board of Association of Hepatic Disease, 1st President of Taiwan Association for the Education of Chinese Medicine, Board of National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors Association.
